The Godfather of Kathmandu
by John Burdett

A Royal Thai Detective Novel (4)

Sonchai Jitpleecheep—John Burdett’s inimitable Royal Thai Police detective with the hard-bitten demeanor and the Buddhist soul—is summoned to the most shocking and intriguing crime scene of his career. Solving the murder could mean a promotion, but Sonchai, reeling from a personal tragedy, is more interested in Tietsin, an exiled Tibetan lama based in Kathmandu who has become his guru.

There are, however, obstacles in Sonchai’s path to nirvana. Police Colonel Vikorn has just named Sonchai his consigliere (he’s been studying The Godfather on DVD): to troubleshoot, babysit, defuse, procure, reconnoiter—do whatever needs to be done in Vikorn’s ongoing battle with Army General Zinna for control of Bangkok’s network of illegal enterprises. And though Tietsin is enlightened and (eerily) charismatic, he also has forty million dollars’ worth of heroin for sale. If Sonchai truly wants to be an initiate into Tietsin’s “apocalyptic Buddhism,” he has to pull off a deal that will bring Vikorn and Zinna to the same side of the table. Further complicating the challenge is Tara: a Tantric practitioner who captivates Sonchai with her remarkable otherworldly techniques.

Here is Sonchai put to the extreme test—as a cop, as a Buddhist, as an impossibly earthbound man—in John Burdett’s most wildly inventive, darkly comic, and wickedly entertaining novel yet.

Bunny on a Bike: Playboy croupiers in 80s London
by
Bev Spicer

DescriptionA Bev and Carol adventure Book 2

"A great insight into 80s London, attitudes to women and life as a trainee bunny, plus smatterings of celebrities, this book captures that careless sense of youthful immortality perfectly. A fab light-but-intelligent read." Amazon reviewer

"To say I liked this book would be an understatement, I absolutely loved it!" Amazon reviewer

"A wonderfully uplifting book that brightens even the dullest of days. The author has a way with words that delights the reader, and leaves her feeling better about the world in general." Amazon reviewer

Carol and Bev have no idea about what they want to do for a living. They see a newspaper advertisement for Playboy croupiers and, with a typical lack of forethought, decide to apply. After parading in bikinis and completing two gruelling maths tests (with a certain amount of cheating), they get the job. They do four weeks training at Victor Lownes' mansion in Tring, where there is free-flowing champagne and a well-stocked jukebox. They are commandeered to be photographed with Victor on his return from hospital, and are invited to attend one of his weekend parties, where they meet celebrities but are not terribly impressed.

Bev and Carol encounter unscrupulous landlords and exact a savage revenge. They deal blackjack to all kinds of punters, fend off lecherous pit bosses and almost fall in love. They get into all kinds of trouble and come out unscathed.

Bunny on a Bike gives the reader an amusing insight into life inside the casino and being young in 80s London. Along the way, Bev and Carol make us laugh with their very different attitudes to life. One thing is sure - they will be friends forever.

Bunny on a Bike is a memoir. It is anecdotal, unfolding chronologically, and told in the first person. Its tone is ironic, and its protagonists offer us an uplifting and humorous account of the process of becoming a Playboy croupier.

If you like frivolity and fun, if you like a dry kind of humour, if you like to laugh, you will love Bunny on a Bike.

There are three Bev and Carol adventures, which are all stand-alone books. For those who would like to know the order, here it is: 'One Summer in France', 'Bunny on a Bike' and 'Stranded in the Seychelles'.

She searches unsuccessfully through the resulting transient experiences and escalating drug use for the one lesson that will resolve her omnipresent question of purpose. Before AIDS and addiction became household words, Robin's Blue speaks to a generation that basically raised itself. Robin's journey takes her from suburban Philadelphia to Miami to the South of France and ultimately to New York City where she is obliged to make peace with the girl inside she left dormant at sixteen.

The Canterbury Tales in Neverland
by
Carl Stevens

DescriptionTHE CANTERBURY TALES IN NEVERLAND makes a post-apocalyptic detective thriller resonate with literary history and ask what it means to be well-read . . .and to get the joke. This is a post-apocalyptic mystery wherein the detective's need for hard facts clashes with a culture's need to reinvent itself on the ever shifting sands of story telling. There are two main stories. In one, Jackson Thomas, a former mayor of a small town known as The Ville, is trying to avoid being stoned to death on false charges of conspiracy to incite riot and murder. He is hampered by being under arrest and dependent on a friend to wear out shoe leather poking into what really happened. Meanwhile Jackson's son and several of the son's friends have all talked themselves into believing that the wisest solution to Jackson's dilemma is to trek across a hostile landscape in search of angels and a miracle. Both stories work on multiple levels. They are each an adventure on their own, a detective thriller in town, a r
