The Time-Travel Duo
by James Paddock

Book 1 of the Time-Travel Duo, Before Anne After:
It’s July, 1987. Through a series of small errors and oversights – a missed phone message, an unlocked high-security door, a lax in protocol, a falling purse – eight-month pregnant Annabelle Waring unknowingly stumbles into her husband’s time-travel experiment. She awakens in a 1943 Charleston Navy Shipyard barracks with no memory of the event. Her existence and her sanity become questionable; if not for her newborn baby and a Charleston, South Carolina police officer, she would certainly have checked herself into the funny farm. Her doctor, alias German spy, learns before she does that she is not only a time-traveler, but a highly educated woman in the field of nuclear science and World War II history. When she finally discovers her own secret, Anne must strive to get both her and her infant daughter home, even at the risk to her own life.

Before Anne After starts you asking penetrating questions. “What would happen if man, or woman, could travel back? Would she be able to change history? Should she? Could she? And then what?” Imagine what the conversations would be like if she could meet with Dr. Robert Oppenheimer, who is in the middle of building the first atomic bomb, or Admiral Wilson Harris, as he prepares to observe the Philadelphia Experiment. Imagine if she could chat with Ernest Hemingway. Imagine what it would be like to be a modern, highly educated, highly intelligent woman in a 1943 society.

Book 2 of the Time-Travel Duo, Time Will Tell:
Annie seldom thought about her age, certainly never talked about that summer in 1943 when her mother birthed her, about the fact that her mother died that same year, or that it might have been in 1987–there was no way of knowing for sure–or about the fact that after 64 years she had yet to observe her 20th birthday. Already a Iraq War widow, Annie Caschetta must escape the oppressiveness around her and all the memories of her husband. With the semester over at MIT and the dreaded summer looming upon her, she chooses to escape to a cabin near Glacier National Park where she can sort through her thoughts and memories. However, it is her final, regrettable words during her last few moments with her husband that follow her and continue to haunt her. It is those words which she knows must be fixed, must be unsaid, if she is ever to have a real life again. If only she had a wormhole.

Bangkok Tattoo
by
John Burdett

DescriptionDetective Sonchai Jitpleecheep of the Royal Thai Police returns in his riveting and smokily atmospheric new thriller. A farang–a foreigner–has been murdered, his body horribly mutilated, at the Bangkok brothel co-owned by Sonchai’s mother and his boss. The dead man was a CIA agent. To make matters worse, the apparent culprit is sweet-natured Chanya, the brothel’s top earner and a woman whom the devoutly Buddhist sleuth has loved for several lifetimes.

The Short Book of Short Shorts
by
George Angus

Description

This little collection of stories is in what's known as a “flash fiction” format. Flash fiction is typically a story that can be told in 1,000 words or less. It creates a bit of a challenge for the writer in that with that kind of word limit every word is precious and needs to have impact.

For readers, the advantage in these kinds of stories is that they are bite-sized. This book is easily readable in a single setting and the stories are varied enough to hold your interest. I tend to write in a conversational tone and this will be evident. What is also evident is the use of everyday language, hence you may be subjected to harsh language on occasion. Trust that there is no profanity just for profanity's sake. If you enjoyed these stories, I would appreciate you taking a minute and posting a review.

The Stories

Sickhouse – The ultimate act of revenge on an inanimate object by a man convinced the house is the cause of all his problems.

Questions and Answers – Sometimes, age is not a boundary in friendship.

The Story of Charlie Z – The all-American neighborhood and who may lurk there.

Perfect Weekend – An account of a truly magical weekend.

Fading – Come be a part of a writer's descent into madness.

Xnortherner – A humorous take on living in the great north.

The Writer's Fable – A setting in a distant time with implications in today's world.

The Crazy Lady Who Yells At Her Dogs – A favorite of the author. Every town in America has a person like this.

The Christmas Story – A true story of hope and good cheer during the holiday season.

Night Stocker – An obvious play on words or something different?

The Good Night – A breautiful story of love and redemption in old Scotland.

Even Steven – Based on actual events, a perspective of life and death.

Trouble In The Stacks – Quiet in the Library, please.

Dream Catcher, Failure Was Never An Option
by
Yvonne Mason

DescriptionIn the years leading up to the 1950’s there were no resources for the challenged. They were placed in asylums or back rooms and left to die. They were never talked about or acknowledged. They were the silent children. The ones no one wanted. The ones who were never given a chance to live. Florida Author Yvonne Mason has given us a story of success in a time of failure for the challenged. She has given a voice to a child born in 1952 who became challenged. This young man was not put away. He was not shunned and he was not ignored. In her book Dream Catcher, Ms. Mason tells of Stan who was never supposed to succeed. He was supposed to fail.

Cold Angel Days
by
Clive S. Johnson

DescriptionThe ancient engers knew it as a theoretical entity, one so remotely implausible that the idea only survived in an obscure verse. How could an ages-old poem give rise to the reality of the days of the Cold Angel, days that threaten the realm’s very future? And why does a woman’s determination to do right by her sister put her at the heart of a mystery, one that threatens to destroy the only love that sister has ever known? Someone’s lost memories lead her to a strange meeting with a man in an even stranger tower, one that pricked star holes in the sky until but a few days before. What of it now, though, and its keeper’s determination to put things right at all costs? How is she to deal with the painful dilemma he draws her towards - when she’s asked to weigh the love of her sister against a duty to save the realm?
