Life Goes On
by Linda Nance

LIFE GOES ON The Family of five found themselves in crisis as they were evicted from their apartment after the father lost his job. With great trepidation they accepted help from a relative that offered them a place to live and new start in life. They had no choices except seeing their family homeless in a rough part of the city. It was not an easy adjustment for any of them as they experienced moments that would test their sense of humor and times that would test their strength of character. There were some difficult issues they would have to face and how they responded could have life altering consequences. Learning what family can mean was a lesson each person learned in their own way.

This is a story of people and a place they would work to make their home. It is struggle, heart, moments of triumph and times of despair. It is a story that speaks to many of us in different ways as the characters struggle with life. They had weathered the difficult transition of the relocation and would face new challenges as life goes on for them all. Life Goes On is a dramatic story worth reading and remembering.

Danny's Dragon
by
Janet Muirhead Hill

DescriptionTen-year-old Danny Branahan refuses to believe news that would tear his world apart: news that his best friend, his dad, isn't coming home from Iraq, not now, not ever. Blaming himself and his horse, Dragon, for his father's demise, Danny rides on the back of his magical dragon to the war-torn desert far away, hoping to find his father and bring him home. Told through Danny's eyes, this timely book tells the story of a Montana ranching family surviving a casualty of war. Danny's vivid imagination intensifies his grief as it carries him through its stages to finally accept his father's death. It also gives him compassion and empathy for all of the many victims of the violence of war. By reaching out to his animals and learning to make new friends, Danny is able to reconnect with his family- and himself. Middle-grade adult readers will relate to Danny's journey through grief, guilt, and changing lifestyle.

The Garden Patch
by
Charles E. Wells

DescriptionA murder suspect turns up in West Creek County running from the law and needing help to prove his innocence. He finds it after tripping red flags in the mind of Timber Mill owner, Matt Veal, who turns the tides of the dilemma and sets justice on its proper path. This action packed story is fast paced, loaded with suspense, and leaves the reader feeling as exhausted as the characters when it’s over. The garden patch is quality plus one for the even the most easily bored readers. It’s book two of the Whispering Pines Serial, and you don’t want to miss it.

The Secret Diary of Eleanor Cobham
by
Tony Riches

DescriptionEngland, 1441:

Lady Eleanor Cobham, Duchess of Gloucester, hopes to become Queen of England before her interest in astrology and her husband’s ambition leads their enemies to accuse her of a plot against the king. Eleanor is found guilty of sorcery and witchcraft. Rather than have her executed, King Henry VI orders Eleanor to be imprisoned for life.

More than a century after her death, carpenters restoring one of the towers of Beaumaris Castle discover a sealed box hidden under the wooden boards. Thinking they have found treasure, they break the ancient box open, disappointed to find it only contains a book, with hand-sewn pages of yellowed parchment.

Written in a code no one could understand, the mysterious book changed hands many times for more than five centuries, between antiquarian book collectors, until it came to me. After years of frustrating failure to break the code, I discover it is based on a long forgotten medieval dialect and am at last able to decipher the secret diary of Eleanor Cobham.
