Flame
by Carla Kovach

Fifteen year old Sophie is a lonely girl whose father died. A lonely girl whose mother cares more about drinking than she does about Sophie. Tormented by dreams of her Father Ben’s tragic death, a ghostly boy and a blue door; she dreams of another world residing behind that blue door. At a new school, where she’s not popular with the teachers or the other pupils, Sophie meets Leila who suffers the taunts of the school bullies. Together they develop a close friendship, bonded by their unpopularity and unhappy home lives.

Spending time walking across Mill Fields to avoid going back to their miserable homes, Sophie leads Leila to an old derelict house ‘Sunflower Cottage.’ The house inspires much curiosity in the girls and promises to be a safe haven from their everyday lives. After a bad few days at home the girls decide to return to the house, not as curious visitors but as runaways. To Sophie’s surprise they find the blue door which draws them into a dangerous world with no obvious way of return; where danger resides in the house's very foundations.

Nevermore
by
David Niall Wilson

DescriptionOne dark, moonlit night, two artists met at The Lake Drummond Hotel, built directly on the borderline of North Carolina and Virginia. One was a young woman with the ability to see spirits trapped in trees and stone, anchored to the earth beyond their years. Her gift was to draw them, and then to set them free. The other was a dark man, haunted by dreams and visions that brought him stories of sadness and pain, and trapped in a life between the powers he sensed all around him, and a mundane existence attended by failure. They were Eleanore MacReady, Lenore, to her friends, and a young poet named Edgar Allan Poe, who traveled with a crow that was his secret, and almost constant companion, a bird named Grimm for the talented brothers of fairy-tale fame.

Marc Secchia

Jetting Away
by
Teri Heyer

DescriptionPriscilla Alexander can no longer take the stress of her job as an advertising executive in San Francisco. In addition, her soon-to-be-divorced mother has permanently moved into Priscilla's small condo. To make matters worse, Priscilla recently split from her dead-end boyfriend. So, after eating a to-die-for hot-fudge sundae at Ghirardelli Square, she decides to get away. Her destination? She'll fly to Australia and venture into the Outback, alone. As Priscilla has come to realize, sometimes escape is the only option.

WARNING: "Jetting Away" is a short story prequel to "Outback Love." It can be read as a stand-alone, but I'm sure you'll enjoy Priscilla's further adventures in my contemporary romance novel, "Outback Love." "Jetting Away" is approximately 5,680 words in length. It's a short, fun read with a touch of romance. You may feel compelled to drink coffee, eat donuts, savor hot fudge sundaes and jet away. Best of all, it's Free!!!

An image, which suggests the Great Pyramid at Giza was not built by ancient Egyptians.

CSI East Coast Episode III
by
Roger Grubbs

DescriptionThe beautiful and brilliant CSI Agent Samantha Powers (Sam) along with her partner Jonathan West, a best selling novelist, are at it again. This time the stakes are higher than ever with bodies showing up daily. The only problem, law enforcement has a suspect but no way to prove it.

What begins as an apparent homicide turns out to be something totally unexpected. Before long bodies are showing up, and Sam is convinced they are all connected. While there are witnesses, something strange happens to each and every one of them.

Certain the city will panic if the killer isn’t stopped immediately, the mayor places the job of solving this crime squarely on Sam’s shoulders. Now under pressure and with the help of dedicated police officers, she and her partner work around the clock.

Before long they realize this serial killer is always one step ahead of the law. The only DNA evidence left at the scene matches the victim—until they finally get a big break. Minute amounts of skin found under the fingernail of a young woman reveal another source, a male. Now with a suspect in their sights, they set a trap; but what happens next will totally blow them away. See if you can follow the leads, but be prepared for a few surprises as you join us in this search for the elusive killer in CSI East Coast Episode III.
