The Scrimshaw Set: Books 1 & 2
by Gayle Hayes

When I wrote The Scrimshaw Set, I intended it to be a short character study. However, two of my readers asked for a sequel, so I took another look at my original story. I thought I had written about the most interesting two weeks in Emma Favager's life, but a little more digging convinced me her initial trip to Buffalo Jump, Montana to claim her inheritance was just the beginning. So I continued the story by telling readers what happened after she returned to Denver.

I decided to combine both stories into The Scrimshaw Set: Books 1 & 2. Those who have read The Scrimshaw Set will find it easier to refresh memories, and new readers will have both stories in one book. I have enhanced the first book, combined chapters, made corrections, and published it here as Book One: Discovery. The novel that covers Emma's life after she leaves Buffalo Jump in the summer of 2012 is Book Two: Dilemma. I have unpublished The Scrimshaw Set to avoid confusion.

When we first meet Emma Favager in Book One, she is thirty, single, and practicing family law in Denver. She learns her grandmother, Frances, has died and left her assets to Emma with strings attached. She must spend time with Frances' three friends in Montana. If Emma's opinion of the friends meets Frances' expectations, Emma will inherit Frances' estate. As Emma tries to fulfill her grandmother's demands, she confronts her own values, discovers why Frances was never allowed to see her, and questions her life choices.

Emma returns to Denver in Book Two and settles back into her routine while exploring her options to either teach law or enter a mediation practice. She returns to Buffalo Jump in late October to find out if she still likes the town enough to move there and practice law. She gets to know Deputy Eric Knudsen a little better. Her feelings are complicated because she met a sophisticated older man in Denver. His life is shrouded in mystery and intrigue, making it more difficult for Emma to get to know him. This is her dilemma: Should she stay in Denver, teach law, and forget Eric Knudsen, or should she move to Montana, take over Harold Lowe's law practice, and forget Jack Hennessey? While she resolves her dilemma, Detective Jerry Dolan enters the scene and takes a personal interest in Emma and her missing scrimshaw set.

Life's a Ditch
by
Charles Dougherty

DescriptionWhen my wife and I decided to run away to sea, we thought we knew what we were doing. Our first few months on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, or “the Ditch,” disabused us of that notion. Our seamanship was adequate, but our expectations weren't realistic. Life's a Ditch isn't so much about where we went and what we saw during our time in the Ditch, but about how we reacted to it and how our lives were changed by our experiences. Share the surprises we had and the choices that we made as we discovered what we got ourselves into when we abandoned our comfortable life ashore to become seagoing wanderers.

The Sacred Book of G
by
Gonzalo W. Bénard

Description"The Sacred Book of G" is a book of philosophy. A sacred book. A Journal of an inner journey of life. Written on different rhythms and times and locations. "The Sacred Book of G" was composed like a music sheet for a strings' quartet. It's music. In real life. It's minded. About brains, and inner thoughts on society - which does not make much sense. It's critical in its wonderings. Facing the world as it goes. It's fire in its dynamic and water so you can dive in. It's an inner brain coming out. A book of memoirs to remind yourself that life should be lived. An autistic journal to remind yourself that life goes on and that we must learn how to embrace it. No matter how. It's a book about life. A book defeating death. Written following the rhythm of the thoughts. Inner ones. With inner doubts. About life itself and how we all should manage it.
