Bounty Hunter
by Roger Grubbs

On a cold wintry night in a small community just outside Omaha, Nebraska, a notorious killer enters the home of a family of five. Less than ten minutes later Ed "The Bull" Malone leaves behind a building in flames with no survivors. Having eluded the law for seven long years, this cold-blooded killer brings additional heat when he murders an off-duty cop who tries to save the victims from the burning inferno.

Within hours a nationwide manhunt is underway, and at the helm of the search is none other than Deputy Director JP Long of the U.S. Marshals Service. Months later and with no success in locating Malone, the deputy director is advised to seek the help of an infamous bounty hunter named Chris "The Duke" Blaylock.

Swallowing his pride and getting on a plane, he makes a trip to Dallas, Texas where he finds this person to be not only a professor of criminology, but a female. Upon entering the classroom of this skillful, well-respected teacher, he soon learns he has misjudged her; but convincing The Duke to come from retirement is an uphill battle. Yet, without the expertise of this notable person, it will likely be impossible to locate Malone and bring him to justice.

With no other option, Deputy Director Long must persuade The Duke to return to her former line of work for he desperately needs the help of the beautiful and infamous Bounty Hunter.

Jan Romes

DescriptionTexas playboy, Ty Vincent, heir to the Vincent Oil fortune needs a short-term wife to convince his grandfather and the Board of Directors that he's changing his ways so they'll name him CEO. Ditching an environmental conference in Atlanta to play in Reno, Ty suffers razor-sharp chest pains at the airport. The pains were becoming a common occurrence that started showing up after he lost his father in a fiery crash a year earlier. The woman who comes to his aid not only helps him with what she can only assume is a heart attack but she also fibs to keep airport security and paparazzi from descending on him. She's brilliant, unemployed and not his type which makes her the perfect choice for a temporary spouse. If he can ignore her extraordinary blue eyes then everything will go according to plan.

The Short Book of Short Shorts

Description

This little collection of stories is in what's known as a “flash fiction” format. Flash fiction is typically a story that can be told in 1,000 words or less. It creates a bit of a challenge for the writer in that with that kind of word limit every word is precious and needs to have impact.

For readers, the advantage in these kinds of stories is that they are bite-sized. This book is easily readable in a single setting and the stories are varied enough to hold your interest. I tend to write in a conversational tone and this will be evident. What is also evident is the use of everyday language, hence you may be subjected to harsh language on occasion. Trust that there is no profanity just for profanity's sake. If you enjoyed these stories, I would appreciate you taking a minute and posting a review.

The Stories

Sickhouse – The ultimate act of revenge on an inanimate object by a man convinced the house is the cause of all his problems.

Questions and Answers – Sometimes, age is not a boundary in friendship.

The Story of Charlie Z – The all-American neighborhood and who may lurk there.

Perfect Weekend – An account of a truly magical weekend.

Fading – Come be a part of a writer's descent into madness.

Xnortherner – A humorous take on living in the great north.

The Writer's Fable – A setting in a distant time with implications in today's world.

The Crazy Lady Who Yells At Her Dogs – A favorite of the author. Every town in America has a person like this.

The Christmas Story – A true story of hope and good cheer during the holiday season.

Night Stocker – An obvious play on words or something different?

The Good Night – A breautiful story of love and redemption in old Scotland.

Even Steven – Based on actual events, a perspective of life and death.

Trouble In The Stacks – Quiet in the Library, please.
