Still On Herring Cove Road: Hickory, Dickory, Death
by Michael Kroft

The first murder raised eyebrows, the second raised alarms. Ten-year old Dewey Dixon is moving, and he couldn't be more excited; though, he's alone in his enthusiasm. Lisa, his mother, and recently retired Avriel, his next door neighbour and best buddy, don't share his excitement regarding the move from a bungalow in a middle class neighbourhood to a dirty basement level apartment in the lower-class neighbourhood at the edge of Halifax’s city limits where two murders have recently occurred. This sometimes lighthearted and at other times intense novel follows Dewey as he adjusts to his new environment, befriends Blue, a streetwise kid, and Stevie, a tough kid who talks only by whispering, and then crosses paths with a serial killer preying on children.

Bourbon & Blood
by
Garrard Hayes

DescriptionDrugs, sex trafficking and murder... Former soldier and decorated war hero Bill Conlin finds himself immersed in it all when he can't find "respectable" work after his tour in Afghanistan. When his cousin, Jimmy, first tries to talk him into joining Irish mafia boss Frank Sullivan's gang, Bill brushes him off.

All Bill really wants is a normal life with a nice girl, and he's pretty sure the waitress he just met, Dana, is the one. But with his savings running low, and desperate to get out of his Hell's Kitchen near-tenement apartment building, Bill, against his better judgment, agrees to a meeting with Mr. Sullivan--and immediately hits the point of no return... Now with a brand new Lincoln and fancy new uptown digs (complete with a live-in girl whose only purpose is to serve him, and a wardrobe packed with weapons), Bill's tasked to take down a Harlem-based Mexican prostitution ring.

What begins as an apparent homicide turns out to be something totally unexpected. Before long bodies are showing up, and Sam is convinced they are all connected. While there are witnesses, something strange happens to each and every one of them.

Certain the city will panic if the killer isn’t stopped immediately, the mayor places the job of solving this crime squarely on Sam’s shoulders. Now under pressure and with the help of dedicated police officers, she and her partner work around the clock.

Before long they realize this serial killer is always one step ahead of the law. The only DNA evidence left at the scene matches the victim—until they finally get a big break. Minute amounts of skin found under the fingernail of a young woman reveal another source, a male. Now with a suspect in their sights, they set a trap; but what happens next will totally blow them away. See if you can follow the leads, but be prepared for a few surprises as you join us in this search for the elusive killer in CSI East Coast Episode III.
