Summer of the Loon
by Deanna Lynn Sletten

Life can change in a heartbeat...

Ali Jenson's life changed forever the moment her mother died. The sixteen-year-old was suddenly swept away from the life she knew in California to live with her estranged grandfather in the deep woods of northern Minnesota. Ali's life has never been easy, but it seems her grandfather is trying his best to make it even more difficult. Her only hope is to get through the summer and her last year of high school so she can return to her old life in California. What she hadn't counted on was slowly becoming attached to the grumpy old man and falling in love for the very first time.

Benjamin Jenson never planned on meeting his granddaughter, let alone having her live with him. He wasn't thrilled with the idea of a teenage girl coming into his home or his life. He'd been down that path once before, and he didn't want to relive it again. But he is her only living relative, and he knew his deceased wife, Lizzie, would have wanted him to give Ali a home. Grudgingly, he figured he could put up with the girl for a year. He never expected Ali to find a way into his heart and make him face painful past memories and his worst fear. The fear of losing yet another person he loves.

Will Ben finally put away the past and give Ali the one thing she's always dreamed of? A home.

Farewell to Goodbye
by
Penny Childs

DescriptionBook #1 of the Never Say Goodbye Series

Sometimes goodbye is not forever…

It’s been seven years since Melanie Rhodes was brutally attacked by a deranged serial killer. Now, sheriff of the sleepy little village of Spring Haven, Michigan, things are good. The worst crimes she has to deal with are kids partying on vacant property and the occasional domestic dispute.

Even when a woman’s body is found in the woods, she thinks she has a straight forward murder case on her hands. But when the second body is discovered she makes a startling connection between the two dead women. Both were attacked by serial killers in their past and both had lived to tell about it. Fearing the worst, she prepares to call in the FBI for help but before she can, her fears are confirmed. Another young woman’s body is found by a fisherman, and she too had been attacked by a serial killer in the past.

The FBI sends in Trevor Giles, their best monster hunter and a man from Mel’s terrifying past. As the bodies begin to pile up Mel and Trevor must learn to put the past behind them in order to work together to find the killer. And together they will have to use both conventional and unconventional means to unravel the mystery. Mel will have to dip into a talent she has vowed never to use again. She will have to “connect” to the killer’s mind in order to find him. Time is running out and the killer’s intentions are clear. The ultimate prize must be claimed: Sheriff Melanie Rhodes herself.

Beneath Mackerel Skies
by
Elizabeth Egerton Wilder

DescriptionThe American Civil War may have ended but the tragic loss of one of the Ryan boys still holds heavy in the hearts of his family. Little Cece, born after her big brothers went to war, is a wise and knowing child who adds just the bit of glue her family needs to bind them during the hustle and bustle of rapid growth along the Penobscot River in Maine where bigotry towards native Americans continues to run just beneath the surface of everyday life. Twins, new immigrants from London, bring surprises that turn the static life at Prospect Ferry into unexpected mayhem. Romance, jealousy, brutality, fears, joy and despair mix to affect the family from Fort Knox to Indian Island to Aroostook County. If one dared ask, “What’s next?” Cece would reply, “I not know.”

Drums of Autumn
by
Diana Gabaldon

DescriptionIt began in Scotland, at an ancient stone circle. There, a doorway, open to a select few, leads into the past—or the grave. Claire Randall survived the extraordinary passage, not once but twice. Her first trip swept her into the arms of Jamie Fraser, an eighteenth-century Scot whose love for her became legend—a tale of tragic passion that ended with her return to the present to bear his child. Her second journey, two decades later, brought them together again in frontier America. But Claire had left someone behind in the twentieth century. Their daughter, Brianna....

The Secret Diary of Eleanor Cobham
by
Tony Riches

DescriptionEngland, 1441:

Lady Eleanor Cobham, Duchess of Gloucester, hopes to become Queen of England before her interest in astrology and her husband’s ambition leads their enemies to accuse her of a plot against the king. Eleanor is found guilty of sorcery and witchcraft. Rather than have her executed, King Henry VI orders Eleanor to be imprisoned for life.

More than a century after her death, carpenters restoring one of the towers of Beaumaris Castle discover a sealed box hidden under the wooden boards. Thinking they have found treasure, they break the ancient box open, disappointed to find it only contains a book, with hand-sewn pages of yellowed parchment.

Written in a code no one could understand, the mysterious book changed hands many times for more than five centuries, between antiquarian book collectors, until it came to me. After years of frustrating failure to break the code, I discover it is based on a long forgotten medieval dialect and am at last able to decipher the secret diary of Eleanor Cobham.
